What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a manual therapy and an evaluation system, with it's own underlying principles. It allows detection and treatment of affected areas, restoring the body's natural ability to heal and ultimately to have the best possible overall balance.

One of its most important principles focuses on the fact that much of the pain and disability that we suffer, stems from changes in our body's structure and function.

Created in the USA by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, a medical doctor, Osteopathy soon found its way to the UK, where it became very popular, recognized and integrated in the National Health System.

Through a very wide scope of manual manipulation techniques, Osteopathy acts over the body's structure, mostly muscles, ligaments, nerves, joints and organs.

Just like a machine, our body needs balance to be efficient, leaving us with more energy to savour life.

Osteopathy is frequently referred to as being holistic because of its comprehensive approach while evaluating the patients, osteopathy isn't symptom oriented and considers the patient as a whole and also because of its effects on the overall health and wellbeing.

We believe that Osteopathy is a complementary therapy rather than an alternative therapy. This approach implies a close and proactive work relationship with MD's, frequently orthopaedic, neurological, and GP's, and also hospitals and other health care providers, in order to ensure patients the best level of care.
